Frederick County Resident
I am a lifelong resident of Frederick County. I have been a resident, homeowner, and taxpayer, in the Shawnee District for 14 years. My husband and I have two sons, both are graduates from Sherando High School. Our oldest is employed full-time locally and our youngest is in college. We have two very spoiled dogs, Rupert & Miku and are avid dog lovers. I enjoy spending time with family, supporting my youngest son in Track & Field, and attending church.
Currently, I work full-time as Senior Accountant for Shenandoah University. I serve on the Committee for Higher Education Futures (CHEF), am an advisor to the Student Investment Club, and mentor young women pursuing business degrees. Prior to my career in accounting, I also worked at the Child Development Clinic for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Education
I have a Master in Business (MBA) from Shenandoah University, where I focused on investing and accounting. My Bachelor of Science in Accounting is from Liberty University where I graduated cum laude. In addition to those degrees, I graduated summa cum laude from Lord Fairfax Community College with an Associate Applied Science in Accounting.
Why My Background Matters
As a resident and parent, I deeply value education and support an educational policy in the interests of students, teachers, and parents. I support responsible funding for education. Frederick County currently has an annual budget of about $465.3 million. I plan on using my skills in data analysis and experience in budgeting and cash flows to make solid judgements on Frederick County’s budget, keeping taxes as low as possible. I understand the struggle working class citizens face every day with their personal budgets, so I believe in being a responsible steward of taxpayer funds.
Why I’m Running
I am new to running for political office. I was motivated to run after reading alternating points of view on tax increases and school board budget requests, without hearing proposals for new, sustainable businesses. There are currently 7 people sitting on the board who have a very real impact on our community. These decision makers should have experience as well as high aspirations for Frederick County. My leadership experience shows that I work well on a team. Everyone has something they can bring to the table. We can learn from each other and meet on common ground to move Frederick County forward. My goal is to give the citizens of our district a real voice in Frederick County government. Frederick County is blessed with over 200 years of capable leadership. I hope to continue that by upholding our standards with innovative policies which encourage fiscal responsibility and accountability. I look forward to working with our current board members to promote the best interests for our citizens. We live in a great county! Let’s work together to make it a better Frederick County: a county that thrives economically, maintains fiscal responsibility and offers a promising future for our children.
